2023 Resolutions

2022 was a difficult year. I am not saying it was a bad year, although I lived through quite a few bad moments, but it was difficult. Stressful too.

When I reflected on my resolutions for 2022 in my previous blog post, I realized I missed a lot of my goals. Those goals are not things that I take lightly, but on the other hand perhaps I fell into the trap of setting more goals than I was able to handle and work towards.

So, this year I have decided to keep it shorter and simpler. Continue working on the basis that I have already set for myself, but also focus more carefully on the important things that I am still missing in my life. I will be setting standards and observable metrics so I am able to track my progress better.

Here goes, these are my goals for 2023.

Athletics

Same as last year. Health is everything. It is the Alpha and the Omega. Without it, everything else will fail, either shortly or in the future. This goal needs discipline and dedication.

Resolution #1

Build a program that fits my needs.

Keep an exercise log.

When working from home, observe a pomodoro schedule and do exercises every other short break.

Incorporate a running and/or cycling (or some other aerobic workout) schedule in my weekly life.

Weight

I want to gain some weight. The target is 12 kilograms, 1 every month. This goes hand-in-hand with Resolution #1.

Resolution #2

Have 5 meals a day.

Eat healthy meals as much as possible. Reduce eating out or ordering to maximum 4 times per week.

Gain 1 kilo every month.

Track my progress at the last day of every month.

Hobbies

During 2022 I basically dropped all of my hobbies, and only recently have I started picking a few up again. Of course, this was not without good reason, but I have been missing doing things I enjoy and making the time for them.

Resolution #3

Create a book of guitar tablatures and practice on two songs every day for at least 30 consecutive minutes.

Work on technical projects (example: MagicMirror, backups, PhotoGallery) at least 4 hours every week.

Read 12 books.

Go for a long walk in the forest at least once every 3 months. Go camping one time.

Find (or resume) another hobby. Ideas: 3D printing, painting, booknooks.

Contributions

Perhaps being an active citizen is difficult when not living in the country in which I am interested in, and being a global citizen is a bit too general for me. “Thing global, act local” still stays true though.

Resolution #4

Contribute to 3-6 charities that have immediate impact to local communities.

Open at least 6 PRs to open source projects.

Be more relaxed and mindful, and pay attention to what people are saying.

“Pay it forward” 1 time every month.

Happy New Year :)
