2022 Resolutions Review

Review of my Resolutions for the past year - 2022.

Resolution #1

Slow down. Enjoy the small moments. Focus on the task at hand. Analyze. Strategize.

Review

I have made some great progress on this. Not many things feel hasty, I try to keep focused when I work on something, and when others talk.

I have found out that taking the time to think things through before taking an action - for example when shopping for a new kitchen item, when debugging an issue, when discussing, when deciding where to eat even, really works. I like the feeling that goes with it too, that of being more conscious of my decisions.

There is room for improvement of course. There are many times where I am absent-minded, especially if something is making me anxious (most often something work-related).

Overall: 85/100 achievement.

Resolution #2

Exercise every day. Start small, but keep a schedule. Make the time. Force yourself.

Review

The year started with me getting Covid, and having to self-quarantine in a very small room for 2 weeks. Attempts to adopt a gym habit did not go well. I cycled quite a bit, and I have recently bough weights at home, but there is a lot of progress to be made.

Overall: 25/100 achievement.

Resolution #3

Define a long-term work plan, accept it and set goals towards achieving it.

Review

I have been very conscious of this during the whole year. Discussing some plans and thoughts of the future with my girlfriend and friends has really helped. Also discussing their plans helped.

Career-wise, I have decided where I want to go, and that has made me focus on seeking the opportunities I want, and chasing or working towards them.

Overall: 95/100

Resolution #4

Radically change at least one aspect of my thinking or life, or one of my habits.

Review

I knew this one would be tricky. However, I feel proud when talking about my reading habits this last year, and the things I learned. I was very keen to get back into reading, and I read around 20 books during this last year. Sharing short reviews about them on this website, has also helped me come back to quotes, and improved my memory a bit too.

I have also been more understanding and patient, and am trying to enjoy the differences in other people’s characters. It has been enlightening knowing that having different opinions and experiences is very often what forms relationships.

I would like to include music playing in this goal, but only very recently did I start getting back into playing the guitar on a daily basis.

Overall: 90/100

Resolution #5

Be bold with showing appreciation. Do not be afraid to show and express your gratitude and love to others.

Review

It started well, but I soon fell back into old habits, of not replying back to people in a timely fashion, and being hesitant to check in on people every now and then.

I appreciate my friends and family, and I have been trying to show that indeed, but I feel that being more verbose with my feelings can be improved.

Overall: 60/100

Resolution #6

Become an active citizen. Join dialogues, express and shape opinions.

Review

By leaving Greece, I have distanced myself from politics more than I originally expected. I am concerned about the ongoings in the country, of course, and I do keep up with the news. However, I feel like I have fallen into an echo chamber and am lazy to get out of it.

I have failed this goal, but I will try to work on it next year as well, as I strongly believe that everyone should be an active citizen. As I learned from the Scouts “think global, act local”, always applies, and local actions are easy to do. So, if you have a big mouth and think you know how the world should be, then start from your own neighborhood.

Overall: 20/100

Overall achievement rate around 63%.

It is not good :)

Covid, and settling in a new life has been hard, but also the more “solo” time has helped me focus on more personal things.

My goals for 2023 will be simpler and aimed at achieving them completely.
