Book: This is how they tell me the world ends - Nicole Perlroth

This book is definitely a thought-provoking and eye-opening exploration of the vulnerabilities of our modern technological society. It delves into the inner workings of cyber attacks and the devastating consequences they have had - and subsequently can have - on individuals, businesses, and governments.

One particularly striking quote from the book is: “Cyber warfare is the ultimate asymmetrical conflict. A single hacker, working alone in a basement, can bring down a multibillion-dollar corporation or government agency with just a laptop and an internet connection.” This highlights the disturbing level of power and potential for harm that individuals or groups with malicious intentions can wield in the digital world.

Another quote that stood out to me was: “Cyber attacks are not just about stealing data or causing disruption. They are about manipulating and undermining trust in institutions, whether it’s a hospital, a bank, or a government.” This passage underscores the profound impact that cyber attacks can have on the trust and stability of our society as a whole.

Each nation with individuals or groups of people that have these tools and capabilities, has any other nation in a death grip, but is also stabbing here and there, when they casually launch small attacks on a plethora of targets. This is how nations can die by a thousand cuts.

Overall, a very nice book to understand what has been happening since the digital revolution started, and how absolutely everything can be exploited.
